Google Confirms the March 2026 Core Update Has Finished
Google has confirmed that the March 2026 core update has finished rolling out. The update began on 27 March and completed on 8 April, taking 12 days and 4 hours in total, which came in just under the two weeks Google originally estimated.
This was the first broad core update of 2026, arriving shortly after the March 2026 spam update and the February 2026 Discover update. It applied globally across all languages and regions.
Why the Timing Matters
With the rollout complete, site owners can finally read their data with some confidence. During a core update, rankings often swing daily before settling, so any analysis done mid-rollout is unreliable. Now the dust has settled, the movement you see in Search Console reflects where Google has actually placed your pages.
It is worth remembering that the spam update ran just before this one. If your traffic dipped around 24 to 25 March, that is more likely spam-related. Changes from 27 March onwards are more likely tied to the core update.
What You Should Do Now
Compare your organic performance for the two weeks before 27 March against the two weeks after 8 April. Look at impressions, clicks and average position at page level, not just site-wide, because core updates rarely affect every page equally.
If you have lost visibility, Google’s guidance has not changed: there is no single technical fix. Review the affected pages for depth, originality and genuine usefulness, strengthen author and expertise signals, and make sure the content answers the query better than the pages now outranking you.
If you gained, protect it. Keep the pages that improved fresh and well linked internally, and use them as a template for the content you produce next.
We will be looking closely at which types of sites moved and will share what we find. If your visibility has dropped and you want an expert view on why, our SEO team can audit the affected pages.
